Your Domain Settings

When you are ready to migrate your business across to I.T. on Tap, you will need to make some changes to your Internet domain as part of that process. These changes are explained below.

The examples on this page will assume that your domain is yourdomain.com. That means that the address of your website would be www.yourdomain.com.

Wherever you see this domain used below, simply replace it with the name of your own domain when you are changing your settings.

How To Change Your Domain Settings

Your domain settings are stored by your Domain registrar , the company you used to register your domain. Registrars will normally give you a username and password that you can use to log in through their website to change your domain settings.

Redirecting Your Email

The MX record(s) for your domain announce which email server(s) will receive email messages addressed to your domain. Whenever someone sends you an email, their mail server looks up your MX record to find out the address of your mail server.

When you are ready to migrate across to I.T. on Tap, you need to change your MX records so that your email is delivered to the I.T. on Tap email servers. The settings to do that are:

Record Type Host Address Priority
MX yourdomain.com yourdomain.com.s8a1.psmtp.com 10
MX yourdomain.com yourdomain.com.s8a2.psmtp.com 20
MX yourdomain.com yourdomain.com.s8b1.psmtp.com 30
MX yourdomain.com yourdomain.com.s8b2.psmtp.com 40

Note that the above 4 records should be the only MX records for your domain - any others should be deleted.

Timing is important! You should not make the changes above until after I.T. on Tap technical staff have confirmed that your account is set up and ready to go. Otherwise email addressed to you will be bounced back to the sender.

Enabling Your Website

The following settings apply only if you are hosting your website with I.T. on Tap. If you are hosting your website elsewhere, you should skip this step.

Record Type Host Address
CNAME www webhost.itontap.com
CNAME yourdomain.com webhost.itontap.com

Creating the second entry can be a little tricky with the software provided by some registrars. It is a "catch all" entry, that redirects any invalid web addresses within your domain to your standard website address (www.yourdomain.com).

This ensures that a range of typos will still result in visitors reaching your website successfully. Examples include:

http://ww.yourdomain.com

http://yourdomain.com

http://anything.yourdomain.com

With the "catch all" entry above set up, all these addresses will be redirected to www.yourdomain.com

If you have any difficulties creating the "catch all" entry above, contact the Technical Support department at your domain registrar for assistance.
