The idea for I.T. on Tap came from mulling over the differences between the computer industry and a humble glass of water.
I.T. on Tap is nothing less than a revolution in the way that small/medium businesses buy and use Information Technology (I.T.). It’s designed to shake things up, and not just a little bit – a LOT!
As you might guess from the name, I.T. on Tap was inspired by the humble glass of water – and specifically, how much easier it is to use that service than the dismal best efforts of the computer industry.
What’s Different?
For example, unlike the world of I.T., you can get a glass of water:
- without spending thousands of dollars on a new tap, because the old one is incompatible with your glass.
- without signing a 3 year lease for the latest, fastest tap that will be obsolete within 18 months.
- without needing to call in technical consultants to reinstall or upgrade the tap on a monthly basis.
- without copping a big “surprise” bill for your consultant to do some apparently urgent & essential maintenance on your tap which, frankly, you aren’t sure you really need done. But, you can’t argue the point because you don’t fully understand what he’s talking about….
- without having to struggle to find a technical consultant who is a) experienced with your model of tap, b) isn’t booked up for weeks to come, c) can work without needing constant adult supervision and d) will get the job done without flooding your house.
- without having to know anything about the complex process by which rainwater is collected, processed, distributed and delivered to your sink.
Below The RADAR, A Non-Issue
It struck me that people don’t ever think about their water supply, much less whinge about it in office meetings, and the reason is obvious: it’s so reliable, so easy to use and so predictable that it’s a total non-issue. It works so well, there’s no reason to think about it!
You just turn on the tap and water comes out – brilliant! Whoever thought of that clearly didn’t work in the computer industry.
You just only pay for what you use – outstanding! The water company spends millions to build and manage all the infrastructure, but your only cost is a bill at the end of the month for what you’ve used.
If there’s a big, unexpected cost (e.g. a burst water main to fix), then the water company handles it – your bill is unchanged.
It’s easy to use – best of all! The dams, filtration plants, pumping stations and other systems are managed by trained specialists, and you aren’t even aware of what they’re doing. All you need to know is how to turn your tap on and fill your glass.
Why Can’t Computer Systems Be Like That?
That’s the $64,000 question, isn’t it? Why is it so much harder, more time-consuming and more expensive to access another essential service – business computing – in comparison to water?
I think it’s because we’ve all gone down the wrong path together. The computer industry has been selling entirely the wrong things to small business owners.
They’ve been selling you the computer equivalent of pumps, pipes, filters, bolts, spanners, seals and so on – along with their services to put the pieces together, maintain it and keep it all running.
But you never really wanted your very own expensive little water filtration plant – did you? You’re probably not interested in the details of the process, you just want the end result.
So why doesn’t the computer industry just cut to the bottom line and sell you the final product: the water, in other words?
A New Approach
I.T. on Tap is taking a very different approach to the rest of the computer industry – much like your water company, as described above. We won’t sell you all the bits and pieces, then charge you to put them all together for you.
Instead we offer a managed service that provides all the I.T. capabilities you need to run your business. And, just as with the “glass of water” example above:
- We build and maintain all the infrastructure.
- We hire and manage all the technical specialists, to keep things running smoothly.
- We’ve made the service as simple and easy to use as we can – not quite as simple as turning on a tap yet, but getting close!
- Everything is handled behind the scenes, so that you can just log on and use the service whenever you need to.
- Your only cost is a bill for what you use at the end of each month.
- You don’t need to invest in equipment, and you can turn cancel the service whenever you want.
Take A Look
In time, we hope that the I.T. on Tap service will make business computing as much of a non-issue as water is today. It should be simple, reliable and inexpensive – to the point where it fades into the background and you don’t need to pay attention to it.
But for now, people are talking about us – a lot!
We don’t mind, because when they first see I.T. on Tap the thing they say most often is simply, “Wow!”
I think that’s a good place to start.
Now that you’re here, please take a look around this website for a better idea of what we’re doing. If you have any questions that aren’t answered on these pages, or want assistance at any stage, then contact us – we’re here to help.
Often people find that they don’t fully understand how I.T. on Tap works – until they try it out for themselves. Fortunately that’s very easy, and it will only take you a minute or two to get started.
Click here to create a free trial login, and you’ll have instant access to the service.
We expect that, like most people who try out the service, you’ll say “wow” too!
