Getting Connected

You need only two things to use the I.T. on Tap service:

1) an Internet connection and
2) a web browser.

The details follow below.

Hardware

There are 3 types of devices that you can use to access the I.T. on Tap service:

1. Regular use PC If you are going to log on to I.T. on Tap regularly from a Windows, Macintosh or Linux computer (for example your personal laptop or your home desktop) then you should install the client software for optimum performance.
2. Zero-maintenance terminal If you need new desktops, either to replace old PCs or for new staff, then the ideal device to use is an I.T. on Tap zero maintenance terminal, the very simplest, most reliable and easiest way to access the service.
3. Occasional use PC You can also access your I.T. on Tap login from a PC which doesn't have the client software installed - for example, at a client's office, a colleague's house or an Internet cafe. All that's required is a broadband Internet connection and a web browser that supports Java - visit www.java.com to check your browser.

Note that when you're using Java, the time taken to open applications is a few seconds longer than with the client software installed.

Installing The Software On Your PC

For optimum performance when accessing your I.T. on Tap login from a desktop or laptop computer, download and install the client software below that matches your operating system:

PC running Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or 2000
Download
Macintosh with Intel CPU running OSX
Download
Macintosh with PowerPC CPU running OSX
Download
PC running Linux
Download

The software installation should complete very quickly; there are no configuration settings or options to choose - it's as simple as can be. When the installation is complete, restart your web browser.

Using The Java Client

If you choose not to install the client software above, then your web browser will automatically download and run client software written in Java, which is a programming language that's often used on websites.

You may encounter problems if you have a very old version of Java installed on your computer - you can download the latest version for free at www.java.com. Please also consider upgrading your web browser to the latest version for optimal performance.

Logging In

To log in to your I.T. on Tap account, just click the icon in the column at the left side of the website that looks like this:

Then enter your email address and password to login and use the service.

After login you'll see a list of applications similar to that shown below. Simply click (once) on any of the programs and it will start up - you're off & running!

Broadband Speeds

We recommend a minimum of 1 Mbps broadband download speed for optimal performance and responsiveness of the I.T. on Tap service.

I.T. on Tap is usable even with broadband speeds as low as 128 kbps (0.12 Mbps) for text-based activities such as email and spreadsheets. At very low speeds you may experience short delays during bandwidth-intensive activities such as large print jobs or viewing photographs. If necessary the service is usable over a 56 kbps dial-up modem, though this is not recommended.
